Part 2: 250 Years in the Making
Semiquincentennial: 250 Years of Storytelling
When we started thinking about our own way to commemorate the United States’ semiquincentennial, we knew it was fitting to create a commemorative, handcrafted piece to celebrate. Not just any ‘250 Years’ piece – one that tells a colorful story.
We asked the simple question: “What makes the United States of America beautiful?”
… then we sat down together to collaborate. Our lists meandered from nostalgic memories of people, places, and images to what we collectively saw as “Truly American”. Our common choices felt unifying.

From there, the imaginative journey carried on – our idea went from conversation and ideation to pencil on wood. The creation of this piece is a story in itself. The eye-catching artwork came to life through our recognizable artistic process – the same process that has driven our art and furniture since 1992. Drawn, wood-burned, and painted at our Sticks studio in Des Moines, Iowa. From start to finish, each piece we make is crafted by hand, by talented artists.

Sticks’ story continues with the integration of innovative practices. Our printed Sincerely, Sticks line, introduced in 2017, represents the evolution of 30+ years of handmade folk art by expanding the accessibility of American-made products across the United States.
This project unequivocally captures the mission of our company. We are looking forward to debuting this special creation very soon in preparation for America’s semiquincentennial in July! Stay tuned.
